The
NFW Community Service Committee met on March 16 to
identify the goals of our group and begin compiling a
list of the services our group will assist. We
separated “assistance” into two areas, Community Service
and Community Involvement, and created a definition of
each.
Community Service: Some kind of physical need
to benefit individuals; i.e. food, service, cash
donations.
Community Involvement: Volunteering time and
talent to an organization.
The
Committee agreed that our group would concentrate on
Community Service. With that thought in mind, we
selected three areas in which we will support in an
ongoing basis. They are: (1) elderly residents [not
exclusively in Mount Pleasant], (2) Special Olympics,
and (3) Adopt a Family.
In
addition, our group will support various needs of the
community as those needs arise. Members of the NFW were
recently asked to submit community service agencies they
are involved in. Below is a list of the items submitted
and identified as Community Service:
Career
Closet – Offers gently used professional clothing at no
cost to women with limited means of obtaining a “working
wardrobe”
Soup
Kitchen
CFX
Food Drive
Toys
for Tots
Red
Cross – Donate blood
Rosebush Food Pantry
U.S.
Military – Care packages
Dog
Tales, Inc. – Purchase books
CMU’s
Make a Difference Day
Women’s
Shelter
This is
not an all-inclusive list. As members of NFW are made
aware of a particular need in the community, we are
requesting they complete the “NFW Community Service
Request Form”. If approved, this need will be
announced to the NFW and hopefully
the need will be filled by the generosity of the
NFW members.
Watch for details
as they become available.
